“By Our Own Hand” is an online special section and a print series this week in the statewide newspaper. It discusses suicide prevention and awareness, and also gives a number of Wyoming families who have survived one or more suicides to have a voice and talk about their lives. The online special section can be found here.
There are chats, videos, and articles to read. Keith Hotle, from the Wyoming Department of Health, who spoke at the 2011 Garrett’s PALMS Suicide Awareness Walk, is quoted extensively.

Kenny Reed, 2011 Garrett's PALMS Scholarship Winner
Kenny Reed of Pinedale has been awarded the Garrett’s PALMS scholarship for this year. Kenny is the son of Dave and Wendy Reed. He has been featured in the Pinedale Roundup for his athletic ability and drive as Male Student Athlete of the Month (April, 2011), and in a story about Pinedale’s senior track team members. He excels in football as a defensive end and linebacker. In track, he placed at State in shotput.
Kenny will have to decide between playing football at Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Wisconsin, or running track at Chadron State College in Nebraska. Garrett’s PALMS wishes him well in all his future endeavors.

Kenny Reed displays the plaque bearing the names of all Garrett's PALMS scholarship winners, including his own.
Kenny is the third Garrett’s PALMS scholarship recipient. Earlier winners were Ashley Transtrum and Jake Brunette.
Thanks to the Pinedale Roundup and Anita Carter for photos and information!
